Vegetation of Robben Island

Unfortunately not much of the indigenous plants are left on Robben Island as a result of the farming practices that destroyed most of the original vegetation. Trrees and shrubs have been planted in various parts as development took place over the centuries.

The spectacular wild flowers typical of the West Coast and Namaqualand also occur on the Island during the spring season.
